What's in a JPEG

JPEG stores metadata in numbered APP marker segments scattered through the file header, before the actual image data begins. AiEraser's scanner walks every segment rather than checking a fixed list, so uncommon or vendor-specific segments don't get silently missed.

Where each metadata type lives

What AiEraser does

View mode reads every segment and tells you what's there, including decoding C2PA manifests spread across multiple APP11 segments into their actual claim/action data. Remove mode re-encodes the image via canvas at high quality (0.95), which discards every segment above since canvas only ever preserves pixel data.

A note on quality

JPEG re-encoding is a fresh compression pass — not literally byte-identical to the original — but at 0.95 quality it's not visually distinguishable at normal viewing sizes.
