IPTC Remover

Free · strips captions, credits, and the DigitalSourceType AI flag
What it removes

IPTC metadata — originally built for photojournalism (captions, keywords, photographer credit) — now also carries a field called DigitalSourceType that several platforms and generators use as a simpler, unsigned alternative to a full C2PA manifest for flagging AI-generated content.

Why IPTC matters for AI detection specifically

Following IPTC's own 2024 guidance, tools including Midjourney and Shutterstock's AI products adopted IPTC's DigitalSourceType field to declare synthetic or algorithmically-generated content — a lighter-weight alternative to managing C2PA's certificate infrastructure. Platforms that check for AI indicators often read this field as well as, or instead of, a C2PA manifest.

Frequently asked questions

Is IPTC's AI flag as strong a signal as C2PA?
It's simpler and unsigned, which makes it easier to implement but also easier to strip or spoof than a cryptographically signed C2PA manifest. Platforms generally treat it as a supporting signal alongside C2PA, not a replacement.
Will removing IPTC data remove photo credits I want to keep?
Yes — AiEraser's Remove mode strips all metadata at once via re-encoding, including caption/byline fields. If you need to keep author credit on a file, don't run it through Remove mode, or re-add the credit afterward through your own workflow.
