HEIC / HEIF Metadata Remover

Free · for iPhone photos · brief server step, then cleaned like any other image
Why HEIC is different

HEIC (Apple's default photo format since iOS 11) can't be decoded by a web browser's Canvas API directly — there's no native browser support for reading HEIC pixel data. AiEraser handles this with a brief server-side decode step (open-source libheif via WASM), after which the file is processed and discarded in memory — never written to disk. Full detail in our privacy policy.

What's typically in an iPhone HEIC file

What happens when you clean it

The file is decoded server-side, then re-encoded (currently to JPEG) the same way any other format is cleaned — the output carries none of the original metadata, since the decode-and-re-encode pipeline only carries pixel data through.

Try it now — upload a HEIC file directly from your iPhone.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the cleaned file download as JPEG instead of HEIC?
The decode pipeline currently outputs JPEG, which is universally compatible and avoids HEIC's more restrictive encoding licensing — the visual content is preserved, just in a more widely supported format.
Is my photo uploaded for this?
Yes, briefly — HEIC is the one format AiEraser can't process purely client-side. The file is held in memory only for the few seconds processing takes, never logged or stored, and discarded once the cleaned file is sent back to you.
